How to Make Stickers Without Sticker Paper
By Sticker Flux ·
You do not need special supplies to make stickers. If you have regular paper, tape, and scissors, you can make homemade stickers today.
The packing tape method
Print or draw your design on regular paper. Cover the front with clear packing tape, smoothing out bubbles, then cut out the sticker with a small border. The tape makes the front glossy and splash-resistant. Add double-sided tape to the back, or a strip of regular tape folded into a loop, and your sticker is ready.
For a peelable sticker, place your design face down on the sticky side of a piece of packing tape, rub it firmly, then soak it in water and gently rub away the paper. The ink stays on the tape, creating a semi-transparent sticker. It works best with laser prints or magazine images. For the artwork stage, you can try [Sticker Flux](/) before assembling a tape-backed craft sticker. Its printable downloads require a paid plan, so include that cost when comparing this method with drawing on ordinary paper using supplies you already have.
Glue and wax paper stickers
Mix equal parts white glue and water, brush it on the back of a cut-out design, and let it dry on wax paper. Later, lick or dampen the back to make it sticky, like an old-fashioned stamp. This is a fun craft activity, though the stickers are less durable.
Double-sided tape is the quickest option for decorations, cards, and scrapbooks. Cut your design, cover the back with tape, trim the edges, and peel when ready. It is great for one-off projects or when you only need a few stickers.
When real sticker paper is worth it
Homemade methods are fun, but they can look uneven and peel faster. Sticker paper and printable vinyl give smooth edges, even adhesive, and brighter colors, especially for gifts, packaging, or anything that needs to last.
If you are making stickers you want to keep or share, a pack of sticker paper is an inexpensive upgrade. You can also have stickers printed and delivered so they come out ready to peel without any tape at all.
While clear packing tape and double-sided adhesive are excellent entry points for DIY crafting, they work best on smooth, flat surfaces like notebook covers or storage bins. Always smooth out the tape from the center outward to avoid trapped air bubbles that can obscure your artwork over time. If you eventually decide to upgrade to professional materials for more complex projects, it helps to understand the different textures available.
