How to Cut Printed Stickers with a Clean White Border

By Sticker Flux ·

For a clean hand-cut sticker, let the print dry, use suitable scissors, and follow the outside cutting line without trimming away the white rim. Sticker Flux includes that thin white border and black outer line in the image itself, so the guide is present on both the download and the print. In Sticker Flux, PNG and JPG downloads require a paid plan; printing materials and independent print-shop orders are purchased separately.

Inspect the print before cutting

Check the complete outline on a plain-paper proof. If a printer clips part of the border, fix the layout rather than guessing the missing edge with scissors. A design that looks centered on screen can still be changed by print scaling or a printer's non-printable margins.

Use small, controlled cuts

Separate the area around the sticker from the larger sheet first, leaving room to hold it comfortably. Rotate the paper as you follow the rounded corners rather than trying to twist the scissors sharply. Move slowly and keep fingers clear of the blades.

Cut around the outside of the black line if you want to keep the visible outline. Cutting just inside it may remove some black ink, but do not cut into the white rim or artwork. Try a proof first to decide which finish you prefer. An adult should supervise children's cutting and handle sharp blades.

Die cut and kiss cut are different

A die-cut sticker is cut through the sticker and its backing, making a separate piece. A kiss cut cuts the sticker layer while leaving its backing sheet intact. Hand scissors naturally produce separate pieces; kiss-cutting requires controlled depth and is usually done with appropriate equipment.

Cricut and Silhouette print-and-cut workflows use their own layout and registration steps. Sticker Flux downloads do not automatically include those registration marks or machine-ready cut paths. Import the artwork into the machine's software and follow its media and calibration instructions.

Apply only after the finish is ready

If your media needs a laminate or drying time, follow its instructions before cutting or applying the sticker. Test one finished sticker on the intended surface, especially if it curves or may get wet. Adhesive strength and clean removal depend on the material, not the cut line.
