How to Make Custom Phone Case Stickers Without Covering Important Openings
By Sticker Flux ·
A phone case is a small canvas, so a few intentional stickers usually look better than a crowded collage. Design around the case’s actual shape and openings, not just a picture of a phone. A removable protective case is a more flexible starting point than applying adhesive directly to the device.
Plan around the case, not the screen
Remove the case from the phone before planning placement. Set paper mockups beside the camera opening, buttons, charging port, speaker cutouts, and any moving parts. Keep stickers away from these areas and avoid wrapping adhesive around a corner. A design that looks balanced when flat may lift where the surface curves or bends.

Choose a composition whose main subject stays readable when reduced, then use the small artwork design guide to avoid overcrowded details.
Test the material and arrangement first
Case materials vary, and adhesive may not grip textured or flexible surfaces well. Read the sticker media instructions and the case maker’s cleaning guidance. Try a small offcut on an inconspicuous area of the removed case if appropriate. Do not use strong solvents, heat, or abrasive cleaning simply to make a sticker bond.
Print a plain-paper copy at the intended size and temporarily lay it on the case without adhesive. One larger design with a smaller supporting motif can work better than several equally busy images. Leave comfortable gaps around raised edges. Paper stickers are generally poor choices for frequent moisture, friction, or repeated pocket wear.
Apply carefully and watch everyday wear
Use printer-compatible media, follow its drying instructions, and cut around the complete border. Place the sticker only on the clean, dry case exterior unless the case manufacturer allows another arrangement. Smooth gradually without stretching the material. Recheck the case fit before use and keep decorations clear of accessories that need flat contact.
Neither printable vinyl nor a protective overlay guarantees durability or charging compatibility. Follow your device and charger guidance and remove the decorated case if required. Inspect lifting edges and replace worn stickers rather than layering more adhesive over them. See water-resistant home sticker limits before expecting your design to survive repeated wet handling.
